Shimming is the delicate and tedious process of precisely aligning the gears within the rifle so they run without grinding one another or moving freely while under stress. While tedious, the results are significant: smoother operation, slight noise reduction, improved performance, and greatly increased longevity of the internal parts. Proper shimming directly affects how an AEG sounds, feels, and holds up over time, making it the cornerstone to any high-quality build.
